Given the need for burst damage that cannot be mitigated by an opponent in addition to working towards a counter millpocalypse strategy. I have been attempting to get Sabine Wren - Explosives Expert functioning in a way that can utilize her burst along side a character that could also add to the mitigation avoiding burst damage. Focusing specifically on Sabine Wren - Explosives Expert as she can use your discard pile to your advantage.
After deciding that i would focus on a 1 dies Sabine Wren - Explosives Expert, i initially went for a red character pairing. Testing with Rex - Clone Captain, Poe Dameron - More Than A Pilot and Admiral Ackbar - Perceptive Tactician. Using the best red and yellow speed cards on offer to attempt to drive the aggro. Specifically we i was looking at Hit and Run and Quick Draw along with Ambush weapons. Quick Draw into Ambush has been a revelation that is for me, now, a mandatory include in these burst aggro decks.
Testing went well. But i longed for the additional Toolbox of eSabine eEzra that i felt i wasn't getting with these red pairings. Feeling very 'clunky' i couldn't help the feeling that i wanted repeatable action cheating if i could. With the only option ring in my head as being Force Speed. Therefore i reluctantly parked the red characters. Worrying about leaving behind additional turn shutdowns in the form of Retreat and additional activation consistency in the form of Grand Entrance.
Anyway my deck building led me to finding a Blue character that had some damage to act as that initial roll out building block of damage for Sabine to use if she rolls all modifiers. Luke Skywalker - Unlikely Hero fits this bill perfectly. But where as i felt it difficult to get value from Rex - Clone Captain's ability. In the later rounds the threat of Luke's power action gave opponents cause for concern and lead to the realization of assured value for Luke Skywalker - Unlikely Hero in this pairing. Access to repeatable action cheating in Force Speed plus the addition of the Blue Hero suite of cards. Made compiling this deck in an initial form relatively easy. But Drawing down to those efficient cards quite hard to do.
So here we are. My current "Double Time" deck list. As with all three die starts it can be difficult to win the roll off if you want your battlefield and ideally this deck wants Outer Rim Outpost - Nal Hutta. But by leaving in Truce alongside Maz's Vault i have found that i can work through those initial resource hungry rounds without too much drama without the preferred battlefield.
Yes as with all Sabine decks this has a relatively high ceiling of damage potential. But it also has a very low floor and i have found myself playing my socks off to fix those poor activation roll outs that CAN and WILL occur. Have a go and see what you think. Noting the following;
- Quick Draw a weapon onto a Luke Skywalker - Unlikely Hero with a previously loaded Force Speed can be just as good as a Sabine Wren - Explosives Expert standard activation weapon play. Especially if you catch the .
- Honed Skills will aid Sabine Wren - Explosives Expert in the long term. Losing a damage die upgrade slot on a 1 die Sabine to a Second Chance feels terrible. But Honed Skills will help with this. Hard to not play two as a result.
- A correctly timed Impulsive can also facilitate a from nowhere burst of damage that should not be underestimated.
- Getting in and doing some damage and then getting out in the later rounds can be your best form of mitigation. Gonna miss Hyperspace Jump in a deck like this when it rotates out!

Unless I was dropping Force Illusion in the first few turns I found that i was hindering myself with regards to taking up a slot on Sabine that needed to be used for a weapon. I felt that I could run safely without it. Running illusion made me go back to running Scavenge to bring back lost Second Chances and started to breakdown the strategy I wanted the deck to focus on by causing me to adjust the Event suite that I have started to be comfortable with. Yeah Force Illusion could also go on Luke but focusing on Dropping Force Speed and the where possible Quick Draw a ambush weapon on Luke pushed home the strategy. Upgrade slots get limited fast and if your not rolling more dice, your delaying your win condition I feel. |
Why no force illusion?
