A New Hope with Deck Analysis

Characters

Leia Organa - Born Leader: Though her ability is fairly abysmal, her character isn't altogether bad. With three damage sides and only one costed die side, her character provides excellent consistency resolving modified die sides.

Luke Skywalker - Unlikely Hero: An interesting character released in the most recent starter set, Luke Skywalker - Unlikely Hero's ability allows you to spend two resources to resolve one of his die sides, increasing its value by two. The one weakness of his character is that he has both melee and ranged damage sides, which decrease consistency and slow the deck.

Battlefield

Rebel War Room - Yavin IV: As this deck is not the most effective at generating resources, Rebel War Room - Yavin IV helps to ensure that your costed die sides can be resolved, even if you do not have the resources required to pay for the costed die. Additionally, it does not provide your opponent a benefit, unless they also run a fair number of costed die sides. If your opponent's battlefield is fairly neutral and provides you some benefit (Moisture Farm - Tatooine, Outer Rim Outpost - Nal Hutta, etc) it may be worth taking two shields; however, if their battlefield is an integral part of their play strategy, do not select it.

Upgrades

DH-17 Blaster Pistol: This one cost blaster is the backbone of this deck, as it has the same sides as the Holdout Blaster, just without the added frills. Playing this card first turn allows you to also have a resource to mitigate your opponents dice, which goes a long way towards survival.

Force Illusion: This card helps to block massive bursts of damage, especially with the prevalence of cards like Maul's Lightsaber in the current meta. Additionally, as this deck doesn't rely on any card in particular, the loss of cards from top deck doesn't have a negative effect.

Holdout Blaster: The primary reason this card is in the deck is for the redeploy keyword. The die sides are not incredible, but the ability to shift this card when a character is defeated is critical.

Overkill: Along with the DH-17, this card is critical to the play strategy of this deck. With 4 modified damage sides, three of which are two or higher, this card is one of the most cost effective upgrades in the game. Ideally, this will be played on Leia Organa - Born Leader either from your hand or using Rearm in the late game.

Events

Caution: Early game this card helps to boost the health of whichever character your opponent chooses to target. However, it is rendered useless once your first character is defeated, thus if you draw into it in your first hand, hold on to it.

Defensive Position: This is the strongest mitigation card in the game, though it does require battlefield control. Whether late game or early game, this card is incredibly effective.

Dug in: Similarly to Caution, Dug in provides three shields, but much like Defensive Position, requires battlefield control. As far as effectiveness, this card provides three health for a single resource, and the shields can be split between characters, which provides versatility.

Hidden Motive: Zero cost mitigation helps to ensure that you can afford your upgrades and still prevent your opponent from dealing immense damage.

High Ground: As both a removal and a damage card, High Ground is excellent at providing massive damage swings, but also requires battlefield control.

Hit and Run: No need to explain the inclusion of Hit and Run as it has been a staple in red hero decks since the beginning.

Light 'Em Up: Especially with Overkill, this card has a 67% likelihood of dealing a massive damage blow, otherwise it is relatively useless, but can provide a massive burst of damage when you need it most.

Logistics: This card helps to ensure that when you resolve a resource side of your die, it is not wasted. It provides you a second resource, which can then be used to mitigate and pay for a costed die side or any other combination.

Rearm: To ensure that Leia Organa - Born Leader can be outfitted with an Overkill at a reasonable cost, Rearm provides assurance that even if Overkill is discarded via Force Illusion, it can be played from the discard pile.

Rebel Assault: An excellent card to deal with specials, rebel assault is almost guaranteed to hit between the character and upgrade dice.

Sound The Alarm: This card helps to break up large damage bursts and mitigate your opponents dice when you do not have the resources to spend on removal.

Strategy

Luke Skywalker - Unlikely Hero should be the primary target of your opponent, especially when you play an upgrade on him first turn. Ideally you will lead with a DH-17 Blaster Pistol, then transition in the next few turns to a redeployable Holdout Blaster. Additional cards that I like to see in the first hand are Caution and High Ground or Defensive Position. If you are able to squelch your opponent's first turn through mitigation, this puts you in a very strong position moving forward.

Ideally, you will keep Luke Skywalker - Unlikely Hero active until the third turn, at which point he will be defeated. The Holdout Blaster will then redeploy to Leia Organa - Born Leader. At this point, play Overkill either from your hand or via Rearm on Leia Organa - Born Leader. Then utilize Hit and Run and Light 'Em Up to deal the finishing blow to your opponent.

One important note about this build is that it relies heavily on battlefield control. As a result, it is at times worth sacrificing one or two damage to instead control the battlefield the following turn. This ensures that all your mitigation will be usable.
