This deck started as a Qui-Gon Jinn + Luminara Unduli deck with the intention of black sides and out of hand damage creating a consistent, fast paced aggro deck.

At 3 dice, that character combo wasn't great, but the event and upgrade structure was impressive. Cheap upgrades and events that let you get dice down and do mountains of damage from hand thanks to Qui-Gon.

In replacing Qui-Gon and Luminara with Luke Skywalker and Padawan, I sacrificed some of the out of hand with more consistent character damage. The number of black sides from the characters alone has a staggering impact when a single Makashi Training enters play.

I've also kept the low cost damage dealing events in the deck. Riposte, Defensive Stance and Caution seem to be funny choices given the characters, however the fast paced low cost event chain is simple to pull of - typically after an opponent has claimed.

When kicking off a game, I'm looking for a Makashi Training or Vibroknife (if not both) that gets thrown down first turn. With Padawan in play, a Lightsaber is also viable - a redeploy option to Luke is super appealing. I'm usually looking for quick removal for early turns that let me setup my upgrades without the opponent getting a head start - Guard or Krayt Dragon Howl are top picks here.

The dice typically look after themselves, rarely do I see a complete whiff of a roll - a few damage from these dice still nets you half a dozen damage. Early game I'm not rerolling, I'll take s and s to build up my board state and make my events more relevant and upgrades more playable.

Late game, once I have 2-3 upgrades on each character (or at least 3 on Luke) and the opportunity has passed for some events or upgrades are too expensive to play, I do tend to burn through the deck for rerolls. At this point a good roll is hitting 8-10 damage which even after control, s and blocking can get you some nasty results.

I'm still experimenting with the deck, some future tweaks include:

  • I currently don't have Force Speed, I'd swap out Journals of Ben Kenobi for it as sometimes an early whiff roll with stacks of blanks or a couple of focus would be good to fix and resolve ASAP.
  • One With The Force has potential - either to deter taking on Luke or force a shift away from Padawan after concentrated effort.
  • Considering each of the 1 of event cards and how I play them. I've found Mind Trick not to be super helpful yet, but the right situation hasn't arisen.

Keen for any and all feedback, this is my first public deck so excited to see how it evolves!

After taking out a tournament a few things came up that required changes. First, my lack of control was hurting me, I managed to pull what I needed but I wanted to buff it up. High Ground and Force Throw were always discarded so I binned those. Journals of Ben Kenobi actually came in handy but it will still be thrown away for force speed once I receive it.

The decks I played against were: eObi-Wan + Rey Hero mill eChewbacca + eAckbar SoR Vader Raider

First game was over pretty quickly. Upgrades and dice behaved and damage was brutal.

The mill deck took me to no cards in hand or deck and opponent had Maz on 5 remaining health. Burned through the Ammo Belt Second Chance recursion very solidly but it came right to the wire with a narrow win by Luke.

Chewy Ackbar was a tough one, but luck was on my side as all my control came up when I needed and the powerhouse that was Luke prevailed.

I made a shocking mistake against Vader Raider, threw out a Lightsaber in my mulligan and drew out only events. From there it was bad plays on my part and I went down.

With that experience, I learned the obvious lesson - keep Lightsaber for first turn Padawan.

I've made the following changes to the deck:
