I ran this deck on 05/20/17 at Team Covenant's Destiny weekend going 5-1 with my loss in swiss losing to eventual champion Eric Wainright in Round 5 and coming in as the 2 seed after cut to top 8. I was expecting a fair amount of Poe Dameron - Ace Pilot/Maz Kanata - Pirate Queen since that was the deck most people were talking about. I believe only 3 players brought Poe/Maz none making the top 8. Top played deck was elite Palpatine - Galactic Emperor brought by 6 players in the field with one making top 8. There was quite a diverse field and Han Solo - Scoundrel/Rey - Force Prodigy is still good after Spirit of Rebellion release.

Premise:

Obvious goal is to play ambush upgrades on Rey like Vibroknife and Holdout Blaster early and often to gain Han shields and to resolve dice before my opponent has the opportunity to remove them. Getting an Infamous out on the table early also helps ambush actions to get even more shields on Han. Goal was to load up Rey with Rey's Staff and both Vibroknife's if possible. I usually only put Maz's Goggles on Han early and would look to play Holdout Blaster on Rey before she died for the redeploy. Spoiler, Rey is pretty good with Vibroknife.

I was a big fan of Zach Bunn's control style of Han/Rey at worlds and wanted to give it a shot with SoR cards. I have a fair amount of dice removal/mitigation, which I think is the most important key to winning with Han/Rey as the damage is already there along with Second Chance.

Round 1: Tusken Raider/eKylo Ren - Vader's Disciple/First Order Stormtrooper He was able to get a Gaffi Stick early on Tuskan, but had very little dice removal. I was able to take out the Tuskan and Stormtrooper early in the game where Kylo was no match for both Han/Rey. My opponent had lots of money, but needed dice removal to have chance. WIN 1-0

Round 2: ePalpatine - Galactic Emperor My opponent was planning on playing another deck, but left some cards and home and decided to go with the Emperor himself. He had the best opening hand I have ever seen with Palpatine. Both Sith Holocron's and Force Lightning's.He managed to roll the specials on both Holocron's followed by rolling in both Force Lightning's with specials. Even with that start I was able to remove one or both of Palpatine's dice each turn. Palpatine was dead beginning of turn 3 with a Riposte. Removal was key with both Han/Rey alive in the end. WIN 2-0

Round 3: Runner Up - Chase Keaten with Han/Rey The mirror match which Chase's deck that did not have much dice removal, but lots of speed with Force Speed/Fast Hands and ambush cards like Swiftness and Hold On!. Both of us had great starts with holdout blasters and vibroknife's. He also got the force speed, but the actions gained I felt were a little overkill and unnecessary. I was able to kill his Rey first and got the lovely Ammo Belt/Second Chance combo on Han shortly after that. We were getting close to time and Chase didn't have time to chew through the upgrades before I could take his Han out. WIN 3-0

Round 4: Top 8 Player - eCaptain Phasma - Elite Trooper/Guavian Enforcer/First Order Stormtrooper Sorry I forgot your name. I had not played the matchup with Guavian yet, but figured it was fairly close to the same card pool as Phasma/Bala/Trooper. He was able to gaurdian and mitigate damage early to keep Phasma alive for several turns, but the dice removal on my side was real. I took out Trooper fairly quickly and started doing damage to Phasma. I removed most of his big damage swings except one turn he was able to All In and take out Rey. Shortly after that I took out Phasma and got the second chance and ammo belt. Not much else he could do once Phasma was gone. WIN 4-0

Round 5 - Champion Eric Wainright Padawan/eRey - Force Prodigy/Padawan Crazy game that went down to time. He had had a bunch of dice in that deck and was able to get a vibroknife on one padawan and a rey's staff on the other turn 1 after I resolved two discard dice to remove Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber and Holdout Blaster. He did 7 unblockable damage to Han on turn 1, which was his strategy most of the day. I was able to draw into a Second Chance turn 2 and play it on Han before he was able to kill Han. He then switched his attention to Rey. This gave me time to take out the Padawan with Vibroknife, which was upgraded to One With The Force before Padawan was taken out. He was able to take out my Rey with the focus from One with the Force and the one and only BB-8 to focus into damage. He was able to get a second One with the Force with Destiny, which is crazy good in that deck. I took out his Rey and it was Han v Padawan. I went for the damage when I was better off going to time and winning the damage tie breaker. I got greedy and threw away a lot of removal cards for reroll to try and kill the Padawan, while Eric was able to roll focus with OwtF and focus into damage. I was able to cycle ammo belt to keep Han alive, but made the biggest error of the day on my last turn. I rolled Han with a Maz Goggles and got a blank, 2 disrupt, and 1 focus. He had two resources at the time. If I disrupt and focus the Han die to the 3 damage I more than likely win on damage. Time was called a few seconds earlier. I focus to the damage before disrupting and he has money to remove the damage with Deflect. I have no dice removal and he is able to get the focus once again after a few rerolls and does the exact 11 damage to remove the ammo belt and second chance to take out Han for the win. Crazy close game I felt could have been a win for me had I played a little smarter and patient. LOSS 4-1

Round 6 - Top 8 Jim Sharp eDarth Vader - Sith Lord/Tusken Raider

I was able to take out Raider on turn two with Riposte and remove Vader's dice before he could kill either character. I believe he had a turn where he rolled out Vader with an upgrade and I was able to play a DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol to remove a die, upgrade another DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol over the first heavy blaster to remove a second die, and finally play Electroshock to remove the final die. Pretty lopsided victory and once again dice removal was key. WIN 5-1

Cut to Top 8 Played Runner Up - Chase Keaten with Han/Rey in Best of Three. Won game one very similar to Round 3 were I took his Rey out first and had the combo to keep Han alive for days. I lost both the second and third games in similar fashion. Didn't draw into any upgrades the first two turns and got both second chances. He got upgrades early and was able to do more damage then me. Game three was more of the same, but he was able to get fast hands on Han and rolled disrupt to start the turn for the first three turns where I just had no resources. I think both games could have gone different if I had better opening hands, but its a risk I took when only playing 9 dice upgrades. LOSS 2-1

I had a wonderful experience at Team Covenant's Destiny weekend playing tons of destiny, meeting new people, and talking plenty of Destiny. I was happy with the deck as it fits my play style well in terms of speed/control/removal. Three of the four Han/Rey players made the top 8 were we all had different versions. I was more dice removal, Chase was speed with Force Speed/Ambush, and final Han/Rey had a version with Planned Explosion played by Ian Shaffer I believe. I didn't get to see much of his deck in action, but know he got Planned explosion off a few times.

I will look to make some more adjustments to this deck potentially for store championships. Right now the only adjustment I want is to remove a Hunker Down for a Hold On!. I will also look to try out Caution as well and possibly a second Negotiate. Hope you guys enjoy.

Thank you so much for this insight! :-)

How do you feel in regards to Infamous vs Swiftness? And have you got New Orders to work? I mean: 2 resources seems like a lot - can't a Scavenge kinda fit in that slot?
Hold On! fits so well in this deck, I like it more than Hunker Down.

@Mr.Undone - I personally like Infamous over Swiftness as they are both 1 cost cards, but Infamous give me the ability to ambush more cards throughout the game. This results in more shields on Han. If swiftness was a 0 cost even I would consider making the switch, but I think Infamous is an overall better card in my deck. New Orders is mainly in there to protect against the mill. If I lose the battlefield and my opponent is playing Command Center - Lothal I feel like it comes in handy to slow down the mill. I think Han/Rey has very good odds at winning the battlefield in most matchups so it is more of a safety card and a cheaper/better version of Hyperspace Jump. I am also not a big fan of Scavenge. Seems like a waste to mill yourself 3 cards to get something back when there are better options like Cheat or using Starship Graveyard - Jakku. I had two Hunker Down mainly to get the ambush off of Infamous as its a shield on Han plus another shield if I can keep it in play. Playing two of them was unnecessary especially with Vibroknife being played in a lot of decks these days. I think Hold On! to replace one if not both is the right call at this time. Still early in the SoR testing phase so improvements can always be made.

@smerle- Thanks. Couldn't have done it without our last minute TTS testing games and weekly games at the store. Ammo Belt was definitely a greatly include.

Great insight - I like Caution moving forward as a one-of as a surprise way to give Rey some shields. It saved me multiple times in the tourney.

I'll have to test Maz's Goggles because I think the early focus can lead to a win. I really like the idea of Force Speed / Jedi Robes / Maz's Goggles because getting the two actions from the Force Speed allows you to resolve a focus chain and maximize damage.

As you've already started down the path of removing Hunker Down you'll find that Swiftness will overperform...especially with one cost and zero cost upgrades. When you can build your own Holdout Blaster or Vibroknife every turn you become less reliant on the battlefield and get to do gross things. It's a win-win. Infamous is probably the cut if you want to go that way.

When we played I was all in on controlling your resources to limit your upgrades. That was the "advantage" my deck had over yours, that with Fast Hands and Force Speed. I was unaware you hadn't drawn upgrades because I was disrupting before you got to act. Disrupts were so much more important than damage, especially in the early turns. You played very well and I like your list a lot - congrats again on the finish!
