Hey guys, here's the deck I played in the Redemption launch event.

How the deck works

The decks gameplan is simple, but it is a fun deck, as it involves a lot of decision points and in game adjustments depending on what type of deck your facing (and what type of events your opponent has at their disposal):

  1. Make loads of money
  2. Mess with your opponent’s hand
  3. Play bombs (preferably Blizzard)

For your first goal, you want to start with Small Battles Won and Reap (or at least grab Reap with Jabbas PA). Also, if you start on you Wheeta, your guaranteed 1-2 resources to start the second round.

Your second goal is furthered by Face the Enemy and Probe. Both have their uses, and both are essential. Most rounds you’ll be durdling around a ton, and oftentimes you can force your opponent into unpleasant situations by removing dice and forcing rerolls. If your opponent plays 1 support/upgrade + discards 1 card to reroll, they’re already at 3 cards in hand, at which point you almost always snap off the Probe.

Lastly, once your opponent’s hand has been destroyed, you play (and/or activate) your bombs. It’s not an exaggeration to say that you can win games with just the Blizzard on the table (I won at least 2 games that way). That said, your sweetspot is the Blizzard + Megas/501st. At that point, your activating your Megas/E-Webs and putting your opponent in a terrible spot, as they hold on to removal for the Blizzard while being pummeled by other good dice.

Who I played in the tourney

Here’s the big caveat: I didn’t play any pirates in the tourney.

I played against 2 Ackbars, 2 Han-Dash, 1 Luke-Dak and 1 Qui-gon – Kashyk – VT. I think the hardest matchup was against Han-Dash, but even there you can win with cards like VPD (messing with the ambush rolls) and 501st (good luck using Mean Streets – Flee the Scene with 4-5 E-Webs rolling in 1 by 1).

Against pirates, I think it’s obvious you are heavily, heavily disadvantaged. That said, if you get good draws and can time your plays so that you have/don’t have resources at the right time (and have or don’t have the BF at the right time), I don’t think its an impossible matchup. I started to play a game against Ace Jon for the last round, and we got 1 round in. I was able to get a Pulse Cannon down and put in ~4 damage if I’m not mistaken, so I feel like I was in a decent place. The problem is the 2nd round against pirates: depending on what you pull (and can therefore play right away), who has the BF, and what they pull (DM, plunder), it will make or break your game.

Final thoughts

All in all, I’m convinced this deck is definitely Tier 1 in a world where Pirates aren’t roaming the open seas at such a high rate. I don’t think you have any really bad matchup outside of Pirates, with Han-Dash being a not great matchup (but it’s also kind of a crap shoot). I’m curious to see how it plays into Dak-Benthic, as his PA is really good against the Blizzard. That’s a matchup to look out for and test.
