Made third place in AZ Regional. Did well versus Vader decks. Smooth list. Not entirely happy with some of the mitigation events, would be better with non-color-specific cards. Outgun, possibly.

Rd 1 W vs Dooku2/Talzin Rd 2 W vs Han3/Biggs/Armored Reinforcement Rd 3 W vs Vader3/Greedo Rd 4 W vs Vader3/eTalzin Rd 5 L vs Lando2/Luke3 Top 4 L vs Vader3/Greedo (Regional winner)

Great deck @chinovalley! Definitely a tough match-up for Vader3/Greedo. Your deck is hot sauce.

Congrats! I had been working on some Wedge Antilles - Squad Leader lists with Armored Reinforcement instead of being Elite. Glad to see he can hold his own in the current Meta.

Thanks, it's a fun deck to play though if I were to play it again I'd take out the Easy Pickings and Entangle, maybe also In The Crosshairs, and put in a couple Outgun and Pinned Down. Helps the deck color balance and not color-specific, which did give me a problem in a couple games because everyone shot at Lando2 first. I'd play this one in another Regional if I can make it to one, it's fairly consistent with decent speed, almost always wins the Battlefield and doesn't have too much troule dropping the Planned Explosion, even on the first turn.

Why the Smuggling Freighter? I get that you can gain 2 resources for free, but it just seems like it's not worth it compared to a Pirate Speeder Tank, which you could easily get into play.

chinovalley 322

It also has disrupt sides which are very useful in certain matches, plus I have enough ships and like to keep the cost down a little bit so I can pay for other cards or pay sides on dice. Pirate Tank was considered, sure, but I just felt it wasn't needed. The other ships have better upside and work with the deck synergies better, and the two small ships (Escape Craft/Smuggling Freighter) help with resources/focus/disrupt. Plus the Smuggling Freighter in a minor way can help vs mill decks. I originally had 2 in the deck but didn't think our Regional would be mill heavy so I just went with one instead.

I'd say an option is to remove one Shadow Caster and put in a Pirate Speeder Tank, that wouldn't hurt the deck. Absolutely need to have both N-1 Starfighters and both Millennium Falcons, those are gold in this list and meta.

chinovalley 322

Note that with the BF and Lando's ability, a 4 cost ship can be played turn one with the 2 discount and starting 2 resources, which is why I don't have a higher cost ship in the deck. I want to get a big ship out turn 1.

I've had a question or two about why I scooped in the Top 4 vs Vader/Greedo. I knew I could not go to Worlds and I would rather the top 2 fight it out for the right to go instead of me possibly winning and deferring. So I conceded my semifinal match. No disrespect or anything to anyone involved, no thought of matchups or otherwise, was simply a decision I made at the time to give my teammate a chance at the Worlds invite as I knew he would use it if he won (he went last year). Great competition all around, had a great time playing through the Swiss rounds versus many interesting deck builds.

Hopefully not to many are making a big deal about that. The only reason I called it out was to give you credit for the decks performance. Wasn't meant to take anything away from the winner.

chinovalley 322

Hey tekmav--No harm no foul, not at all. The Vader/Greedo deck was quite strong. Mostly I just wanted to mention 'the scoop' to note there was no funkiness intended. I appreciate your comment about my deck over in the comments for your decklist. Our decks are a killer matchup, feel like they could go back and forth over several games and be roughly even. We have roughly similar decks though I went with red and you with blue. Good stuff.

@chinovalley What was your strategy if you didn’t have a Falcon, Caster, or N-1 in you starting hand? I could see that happening, how do you avoid falling behind turn 1?

chinovalley 322

Hey hollandg7 -- if you don't draw a major ship then you probably drew defensive cards. Try to build resources or put out up to 10 damage between Lando's and Wedge's character dice. Use mitigation to avoid big damage bursts and prep to get something out the next round. Pretty much want to burn all cards in hand to draw fresh for round 2, you really want to get a Falcon or Shadow Caster out as soon as possible, with the N1 also being very useful. With 6 mods in the deck, you need to get to a vehicle early, preferably one of the two big ones.

chinovalley 322

To add to the above--getting 5-6 damage off round 1 is fine with this deck. It sets up the round 2 Planned Explosion, and those characters that have a bit over 10 health are suddenly at risk with the few points they take in round 1. I've had games where the first round was getting a few indirect damage out, then drop a Planned Explosion in rounds 2 and 3 to finish a team such as Jyn2/Cassian or Yoda/Han3. It's not always that simple, but with the size of the dice that come out you can get a PE off without too much effort. They key is the timing and how many dice you burn to trigger it (what ships/characters you use to try and get the 10 value in dice). Against the current hotness of Yoda/Han3, taking out Yoda turn 1 with a PE is a virtual showstopper--it can be done. :)

@chinovalley thanks for clarifying, that makes sense. And congrats on your success!

chinovalley 322

Thanks, appreciate the questions and comments.

Would you make any cuts to add second chance?

chinovalley 322

No, I don't think so--this deck is all about hitting hard and fast. Second Chance diverts resources into defense and slow the tempo down. Plus it only works on Lando and could end up being a dead card later in the game. If your style is more defensive then sure, you could slot it in. Maybe take out Attack Run or even Planned Explosion, if the intent is to play a longer game.

chinovalley 322

This deck has been adjusted and I'll be playing it in the CA Regional. I'll post the list afterwards, hopefully with a good tournament report. I believe the CA Regional will have 60 players (capped) so it will be a good contest. Cheers.

Good luck @chinovalley!

chinovalley 322

Thank, I appreciate that.
